Arnor, get a clue bud. There is more than one person working at Mythic, and many of them have nothing at all to do with tweeking abilities or classes or whatnot. Most of these changes are the kind of stuff that game artists work on. Basicly, Mytic can work on more than one thing at once.

Realy though, we all know that they will never be able to establish a satisfactory balence in the game, nor fix all the bugs, no matter how hard they try, so it certenly cant be allowed to be thier only priorety. For that matter, Fluff is just as important to this game as your precious buggs and balence issues. If the game produces a compelling playing experiance then people will keep playing, regarless of these issues.

So, here are some key facts you might want to keep in mind before you bash fluff:

    - Mythic, like any company, multitasks
    - They can never make balence perfect
    - They can never get rid of all the bugs
    - Fluff is just as important as balence

I will NEVER believe that mythic can multitask to any degree. Or maybe they can, its just that their focus is waaaay off.
How can they fix horse "propagation" and not give hunters some love?

How can you say that fluff is as important as balance?

Read my sig bud, I play a shaman. You know, the class that everybody else loves for thier buffs. I know all about game issues.

If you think that the same guy who works on mob pathing and horse propegation is making design decisions about your class, then your just plain clueless.

Fluff is absolutely as important as class balence. As I pointed out, and unbalenced game that is still fun, because it is emersive and itneresting, will still get played. Both are important.

BTW, I agree with JV, please dont hijack. Contribute or go about your buisness.

I know, I reposted this on another thread too, I really really like it...

This is the kind of player orientated building and customisation I'd love to see, lots of interactivity, etc.

    Ulye

It is becoming harder and harder to take a keep, which historically has some bearing, people did not take and retake a keep several times a day.

What if a keep could be taken, not by a guild, but by an alliance. Then, guilds belonging to that alliance could spend bounty points to build guild houses in the vicinity of that keep. Not only could they build houses, but they could purchase militia there. Build forges, non-decaying seige equipment, hire merchants, all for a cost. Perhaps with great cost portals could be added, vault keepers, bindstones.

The buildings, like keep doors could be attacked and destroyed, but also upgraded and repaired. Perhaps they would require the use of a new tradeskill. Architect, Carpenter, Mason. They would require bounty-point maintence or first the merchants would leave, then the militia, and finally the housing itself would slowly decay. There could be non-combat NPCs that must be alive to upkeep the buildings. Without them (in the event of their death) the building would decay, new caretakers would have to be hired. Whole raids could be planned at crippling the town by slaying the commonfolk, to return and siege when the fort has fallen into disrepair.

Destroying a Guild hall outside the keep would cease the spawning of the guild-hired guards. Making it somewhat essential to concentrate on the outlying "Town" before moving on to the keep itself.

Perhaps before guards are hired a Barracks would have to be built, or before guards are upgraded an armory would have to be added, perhaps a smithy.

Implement this, and keeps will not fall in a day, but they will require long sieges and hit and run raids. Taking a keep will be a dynamic balance of protecting your individual intrests or that of the "Fort." Alliances will become close-knit groups and the frontier will take on the look of a series of small encampments instead of a series of randomly placed overstuffed guardtowers.

How about some freakin sounds? There's some Fluff for ya.

Horses running in silence is just wrong.

Mobs and characters alike.. All walking around in Silence is Wrong.

1st person in DAoC is worthless as you can't hear anything around you. :(

Very dissappointed in what I consider VERY important sound fluff. Ambient music.. BAH! I want to hear stuff around me!

The fact that a mob can sneak up an attack you without you hearing them is crap.

PS. What's good about DAoC for those with nice 3D Sound systems? No help.

    Here's the deal.

1.) I've watched over time as one class after another in this game has gotten nerfed, all due to crys about how one guy got owned by another guy...and this sort of nerf-cycle is never ending. Mythic, so long as they continue to engage in this crap, will NEVER balance the classes...ever.

2.) Lots of people (at least in the US) came over here from EQ. We were sick of EQ's gameplay, not the cool stuff ("Fluff") that you can find there, but EQ gameplay. Many folks didn't even come over in order to be l33T RvR gods...I for one, and many of my friends enjoy the gameplay model that DAoC uses for PvE. Example: It's nice that my 30th level Armsman in yellow/orange equipment can walk up to a yellow and kick his ass...a 30th level Warrior in EQ would run screaming like a little girl from a solo fight against a 30th level mob. Thus, there are lots of folks who are interested in the CONTENT of this game.

3.) AC 2 is already out...it may suck, but it's out. SWG will be out a bit later. EQ 2 is on it's way. There's a lot of competition out there with a lot of content. If Mythic would like to keep some suscribers long term, they have to find a way to deal with that. RvR balance that's never balanced and can never be balanced is not the way to do that.

4.) So Mythic is faced with competition that could pull a lot of it's customer base away, and one of the best ways to conteract that is to add more content...and more fluff. Otherwise this game will be a near ghostown with only a few diehard "least-nerfed class of the month" people still out there doing whatever passes for PvP.

If you read this far, thanks for your time.

I still can't emphasize how important it is to the environment that we hear characters and mobs walking around us. Anyone else notice how ODD this is?

If there's a mob coming up behind you, shouldn't you HEAR IT?

Am I the only one who finds it extremely primitive that a horse can run by in silence? Or an Army can run up on us in the frontier in silence?

Sure, now there's some ambient sounds of birds and whatnot.. however everything walks around in silence.

I'm one of those peeps who came from EQ.. I used to love sitting out somewhere at night and listen for creatures walking around in the woods. I LOVE my 3D Surround system of which in DAoC is not used at all. Sure music is great.. but what good is positional sound when the only thing I can hear around me is if somebody casts a spell or attacks?

PLEASE For us that really do enjoy the FLUFF experience... Give sound to the mobs walkin in the woods, to the people walking around you.. and a horse running by in silence is just wrong.

It was an AWESOME positional sound feature in EQ, and I'm ashamed that it's not in DAoC. It adds an amazing amount of realism to the environment and will enhance the first person view to hear things.

Some of you have said that you would like new music for DAoC as fluff. Well, here is a quick and dirty solution:

Go online or to your nearest CD store and get a copy of whatever music you think would be good for DAoC.

    Rip it to MP3.

Copy that MP3 to the appropriate file name in [DRIVE]:\Mythic\Camelot\Sounds

and you will have new music, until Mythic can compose some new stuff.

For example, I have O Fortuna from Carmina Burana (Carl Orff) for my combat music :)

Horned and antlered helms, other forms of headgear such of cloth masks, animal skulls. A secondary option to cloaks, such as shoulder pads or battle standards. Lastly, the ability to collect crafting items from the game world, from either logging huts that let you pretend your chopping down trees, or from corpses of monsters.

Please no horned helms. They were not really used. It was a good way to get your neck broke..

I would be interested in some miscellaneous spells. Not damage, not buffs. Think "Bind Sight" from EQ...happy fun utility spells.

Oh, and change the animations for the sword styles. I gotta tell you if you did that little 360 degree ballet twirl in real life you'd get killed pretty damn fast.

Just now watching the 13th Warrior again and really makes me wish I could add the sort of personality that each of them have to one of my characters <sighs>.

Wish weapons could be equipped in any slot just not used if you don't have the appropriate skill to wield them.

Blunt and Slash only classes can equip a thrust weapon in their right, left, and 2handed weapon slots, just never use them, even if they don't have the dual wield skill of their realm and so on.

Bows should show slung across a person's back when melee wepaons are wielded.

People should be allowed to put any 1h type of weapon in their ranged weapon slot, just not wield it from there.

Chain armor where you can see the leather padding underneath and have it dyed a different color than the chains.

In the next week, ill be updating the Digest with a section of things that we've asked for, and been given (as well as with all the new ideas posted sence the last update) and we can all hope that ALL of these ideas make it into that catagory.

**Spell Books** gives 10 minute magical bonus to caster if he sits and reads book for 30 seconds.

**Scrolls** Gives caster the ability to cast a single spell such as bolt, dd, or dot. Use once and scroll disentegrates.

**Cursed Magic Items** Random dropped item causes harm to user when equipped.

**Treasure Chests** Its about time DAOC introduced chests of treasure that need to be opened by player. Chests can be trapped, poisoned, mobs jump out, etc.
