This is Part VI in a series of quests:
Part V is Hands of Fate

The Craft of Retribution

All throughout the quest, there is a lot of talk about how we need to stop
Morgana and that she might be making undead from other realms.

...and get ready to get saddle sore.

1) Talk with your (insert class) trainer. He will ask you to seek out
Lieutenant Kuebler in Castle Sauvage.

2) Go to Castle Sauvage and talk with Lieutenant Kuebler. He will ask you to see Captain Leri in Snowdonia Fortress.

3) Go to Snowdonia Fortress and speak with Captain Leri. She wants you to secure the Arawnite shaman knowledge on death through force.

4) From the fortress go out into the frontier and find an Arawnite shamaness near the fortress to the north. Kill her and she will provide you a tome.

The shamaness was yellow at level 40, but there are many shamanesses around some also con blue. Just killed the first one I found. Return the tome to Captain Leri.

5) After reading the tome Captain Leri discovers the Arawnites are interested in an undead minion that Morgana focuses her power through. In
order to find the undead you must retrieve an amulet from the Catacombs and return it to her. Read what she says... she does tell you exactly what to do in the next step.

6) Travel to the catacombs and proceed straight from the entrance until it enters a round room that has 4 named undead romans. Kill all four. They all conned blue. Each will drop an item: 1 amulet, 1 bracelet, 1 ring, and 1 belt. Once you have all 4 items, wear them and stand in the center of the room for a few seconds. You will see a brief message and in your inventory you will have the Amulet of Fasius Previlus. Once you have the amulet return to Snowdonia. (some stealthers have found to get Fasius Previlus to show you must be unstealthed)

7) Captain Leri will ask for proof. Hand her the amulet and she hands it
back. She then says to that you show the amulet to Cynwik the Wizard who is
also in the fortress.

8) Cynwik the Wizard will ask what you want. Hand him the amulet. He
babbles a bit but finally tells you that the amulet longs to be with it's
owner who roams the ruins of a roman temple near the northwest pass of
Hadrian's Wall (loc=10k , 42k). And he gives the Amulet back.

9) Travel from Snowdonia east to Pennine Mountains. Keep going NE towards Hadrian's Wall. The pass is at approx 40k,0 (This /loc will not be the same in New Frontiers). Once in HW follow the path, then make a left at the aqueduct ruins and follow path which will take you to the northwest. You will eventually come to some pillars (kind of in a circle or oval) this is where Fasius Previlus will be found (loc=loc=40994,29306 in Hadrians) Wait a few moments. There is some text about the amulet glowing because near it's
owner. Then the amulet will break (NOTE: the item name of the amulet does
not change to 'broken amulet' or such. Name stays just as it was named
before). Wait a bit longer, until a series of lightning flashes occur. Then
Fasius will appear standing on top of a rock. Kill him. And your quest log
will tell you to return to Snowdonia. (NOTE: he spawned as orange con to
level 40. Was soloed by a level 40 friar who got REAL lucky with a string
of 3 consecutive evades... take a friend.)

10) Captain Leri will ask for proof. Hand her the amulet. She will then
ask for your choice of rewards.

Just a note that you must zone into the Catacombs from Cornwall. If you enter from the abandon mines the it will not work. Just leave and re-enter to get the item drops

In NF add-on, the roman pillars where you find Fasius (step 9) are located at 41400, 29200 in Hadrian Wall. Just teleport to Caer Berkstead and they are very close to the keep.
problems entering catacombs

If you get the 'To high to enter this region' when 45+ and you try to enter catacombs on step #5+
You can find the animated version of the Amulet of Fasius Previlus which is blue to 50 West of the catacombs near the cornwall giants. I found it at loc 2350 41150.
Killing it will jump you to step #8. Smiley: grin
Fasius Spawn Time

August 10, 2004, Fasius did not spawn for me until hour 4, near sunrise. Earlier posts repor him spawning at hour 20 and hour 0 (midnight). Seems his spawn time may be anytime during hours of darkness. Suggest you be in among the pillars when dark falls and wait patiently until he spawns. I did not see exactly where he spawned, but he came and attacked me once he did, so finding him was not a problem once he appeared. Reported loc of 41540, 29860 is accurate for the area he spawns in. Region is called Cariosus Ruins.
Arawnite Shamaness' Location

August 10, 2004, found camp of Arawnite Headhunters in Snowdonia, not far from Snowdonia Fortress, at approximate loc 54k, 38k. The shamaness I found conned blue to a level 42 friar, and was standing inside of a stone hut. There were yellow warriors close, but I was able to single pull the shamaness using the taunt spell.
Fasius in NF

Did this quest today (7/25/04). Fasius was located in Hadrian's Wall at 41540, 29860. It's not too far from Caer Berkstead. When you walk into the spires it tells you that you've entered Cariosus Ruins. He spawned at exactly midnight. As soon as he did, a message appeared that the amulet was glowing. Didn't break until after I killed him. He conned orange to me at level 40. Soloed him and still had half my health left when he was dead.

I am lvl 40 armsman. Fasius did not appear until 20:00hrs when the moon was rising. It doesn't matter if you are wearing the amulet or not (I wasn't). The amulet did not break until after I killed Fasius who was orange to me which I soloed no problem. I got 196 million xp from Captain Leri when I gave her the broken amulet which was half a bulb! Just going to select my reward weapon now...

"Named" mobs
# May 30 2003 at 12:23 PM Rating: Default
Just to clarify (cos I just spent about half an hour running around Catacombs trying to find Named mobs!!)

The 4 mobs you have to kill in Catacombs are not Named, per se. Just kill any imaginifier, draconarius, signifier, and aquilifier.
Fasius Previlus /loc

Location of pillars for Fasius Previlus is about 10,43 in Hadrian's Wall.
Rewards have increased
# Oct 08 2002 at 10:06 PM Rating: Decent
There are far more reward options than what are listed here....likely a change made by Mythic. As an armsman, I choose the Great Axe of Retribution as a reward item. It is a 2H slasher with a fire damage proc, +6 2H and +3 Parry. Outstanding weapon which makes this among my most successful quests.

Just did this quest the other week...insane on travel. As a theurgist, had no problem doing it solo. End mob con up orange. Watch out, as I was heading towards the ruins, a zerg of hibs came flying by out of their milegate. My girlish figure just hid behind a pillar, never saw me :)

Good thing eh? ;)

Wizard Lost was insane on travel, too. The horses never went directly where you had to go.
this was easy

This is an easy epic. If you can get someone that knows their way though the frontier your fine, and um at lvl 40 my guy spawned as red. I lived, but barley and only had a lvl 23 with me for speed.

What is the reward for a scout?
RE: Scout
# Jul 10 2002 at 8:02 AM Rating: Default
If u choose the thrust weapon, u'll get a proc-weapon called in german 'Schattenstich', that would be in english 'shadowstitch', but I don't know if that's the name in the US-Version.
Is this the end?

This is the end of the epic quest? And anyone know what the Armsman 1hs weapon is called (guessing excalibur)?
RE: Is this the end?
# Feb 18 2002 at 8:19 AM Rating: Default
I think all the armsman weapons are named "of retribution".
Hopefully this is not the end of the epics, as it would be sad to have seen Morgana and then not get to fight her.
The scout choices are named shadow piercer and shadow cutter stats are about the same as the friar staff, but the piercer has +7 dex and +6 thrust
Armsman weapons
# Feb 10 2002 at 1:13 AM Rating: Default
The is alot of stuff for the Armsman. Armsmen get to choice from a choice of about every type of weapon to use. Blunt, Slash, Polearm, and 2h Weapons.

Re: Not that bad travel wise
# Feb 01 2002 at 4:02 PM Rating: Default
No, it's bad. You need to go to the Catacombs in Cornwall to do it and then go from Snowdonia Fortress to Hadrian's Wall. That's a pretty bad trip if you've not been out there before and know where the mobs are.

Well, at lvl 40+ you should be active in realm defence already, and for that you need to know the frontier ...
Its easy to find and if you follow the "roads" (stones) you wont meet that many mobs you have to avoid. Only problem is the Hib milewall just behind the orange-con mob at the end... there might be some Hibs looking for you ;)

Nice to see a 15th level saying that all 40+ should ALREADY be active in the realm defense.

Let me just say this politely. Most people out there taking keeps, and defending them are 45+. I went out at 38 with some people that I know who were 49, 50. I did just about nothing except for get some realm points.

Yes, I caused a bit of damage, and they MIGHT have gotten off one less swing from the small amount of damage that you do against a purple con....but I don't think I may have even done that much.

You don't do too much with realm defense before you hit 42 or 43+ for the most part.

At least the horse rides are just from FS to Snow, direct route from one to the other, 20th epic was insane on travel.
