DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

As of patch 1.79 this quest is no longer being given out, only those with this quest in their journals prior to the 1.79 patch can complete this quest. This quest has been replaced with a new Epic quest "Pledge to the Academy (Epic 1)."

Talk to your guild master

They give you instructions to head to Cotswald and chat with Lundeg Tranyth at loc 10845, 30585 in Camelot hills (Another option is being sent to Humberton, one vendor someone had to speak to was Bline).

The vendor will ask to you get a hidden Eye, which is found from giant spiders in the South black mountains in a specific area.

In order for a spider to drop an eye, it must be one of the ones which are found underneath the boar markings on the side of the hill. This area can be found by heading across the dual bridge near Ludlow and turning right after you pass the bridge. loc 54k, 21.5K in Black mtns south

I got my stone on the first try at a different location. I continued on past the double bridge and turned left off the road at the very next tower. It worked in the journal and when I returned it to Cotswold.

Return the eye to the vendor in Cotswald, for a nice set of Green hued leather leggings.

This quest is a prerequisite for the level 11 Quest.

Rewards:
  • Svelte Hide Leggings -- Minstrel

  • Hidden Eye -- Wizard and Sorceror
  • Rewards:
      Hidden Eye
      Svelte Armor Leggings

    Won't work for paladins?
    # Mar 16 2002 at 11:55 AM Rating: Default
I am a level 9 paladin and can't get this quest from my trainer in Camelot, nor from trainer at Snowdonia. In fact the only quest I ever got from trainer was the level 7 quest, I think it was the where you kill sprites and eventually get a Blessed Penchant. By the way, that penchant gives you +1 on chants, but won't give you the new chants that go with your supposedly higher chant level skill...

If you look at the classes..it is restricted to certain classes, and I don't see paladin on there, so no...it most likely isn't designed for paladins.

Also, just because an item bonus gives you a bonus to chant or any other skill, it will NOT allow you to use chants or any other skill from that higher level. You must actually train to that higher level to be allowed to use the higher level skills.

For wizards (at least from personal experience), getting this eye (and giving it to back to the merchant in cotswold) will complete the quest, and he will give the eye back to you, instead of a pair of leggings, for you to keep and use.
    Sweet Leggings for Minstrel!!!

Hey all you Minstrels out there...listen up...I got this quest from the Minstrel Trainer in Camelot at Level 7. This was a very easy quest to complete...just cross the huge double bridge, as soon as you do, turn right and follow the river (river will be on your right). When following the river you'll run smack into a large hill with a huge caveman painting of a boar. Giant spiders are located right there...can't miss 'em. They conned blue and red to me at level 7. Of course I picked out a blue one, killed it, and immediately got the hidden eye (it just appears in your inventory). Went back to the merchant dude, and he gave me a nice pair of Svelte Leggings +3Cha +2Dex AF14 +Absorb10%. Real nice for such a low level and easy quest. Thought you Minstrels might want to know that, since initially to me, it looked like this quest should only be for a sorc or something. Go for it!

Just read the write up on the Stone and it says useable by Sorcerers and Wizards which is probably why the ither Guild Masters don't give out this quest.

I did the same thing, it doesn't seem to matter where the spiders you kill are located.

I made a left after the bridge, ran down the road a little ways and made another left at the second guard tower.

All that matters is if its a giant spider in south black mtns. The part about it having to be near the giant boar is of no importance.
    Some more help
    # Nov 14 2001 at 11:18 AM Rating: Decent
In case people have trouble finding the hill described above, like I did, here's the easiest way...

From Camelot, head out the north gates. Follow the road north, continue past Humberton. At the end of the road is a river with a bridge. Cross the bridge, and take a right, following the river. You will know you're in the right area because you will see a hill with a huge boar-shaped thing carved into the side of it, looks like a cave painting.

Things in that valley con green to red at level 7. Spiders are blue to orange. The spiders can poison you, but aren't too hard... They aren't aggressive until you attack them and won't help each other.

Even if you don't need to do the quest, or if you're done with it, this is a great place for experience from 7-9. The place is filled with animals, and the only animals that will attack unprovoked are the mountain lions which are pretty weak and rare. You can pretty much rest safely at the river, and kill at your own leisure.

On the northern hill there are a bunch of dwarven bandits, if you clear out the valley they are good to kill. Some of the tougher ones carry up to 3 silver. Be warned, they are aggressive, they can sometimes call a friend if close to one, and there is one bandit around level 8 or 9 who runs around the valley you have to look out for. He can and will attack you if he comes close, and sometimes he will run away and return with one or two others of equal level, so if you fight him don't let him get away, and if you don't want to fight him stay clear.
    easy exp

What a night... I had the quest from Bline and the Search for Sil quest ... So Im at the bridge and figure what the heck I will run over to the ruins and see if hes up (I had a even conning bandit as a pet)... Sure enough he was, and he was yellow to me at 7th... was an easy kill ... got deamon gem and headed to Camelot on my way to Humberton ... whats this is see Ygwych Gyrg!!! not being molested, I guess everyone has this cloak:) ... drops his cloak ... give the bad news to nOb .. give him a tissue .. head to Humberton and give the gem to Bline who is very thankful and gives it back to me +3 int +power and bookoo exp. /whisper help .. take this note to babe in Ludlow = bookoo exp, /whisper help take this bag to dude in Humberton = bookoo exp. Back to Bline /whisper help find goblin scout ...

Point is do those quests ... awesome exp for running around!!! I got at least 3 bubbles and lvl 8 and any fool can do.

    Be safe and quest :)
    RE: easy exp
    # Nov 14 2001 at 11:05 AM Rating: Decent
Gyrg is an easy kill at level 7 for pretty much any class, and as a yellow con he's great XP. He also spawns constantly, so sometimes I just hunt him when I'm too lazy to go looking for kills. =)

Of course, if someone needs to kill him for the cloak, I let them do it, or even group with them and help them.

The quests are great XP, even if the item that you get is something you don't want, and don't forget to look for tasks, at early levels running from Prydwen to Cotswold can get you a bubble of XP and some silver, which to me is more than worth it!

    Riddle
    # Oct 28 2001 at 10:16 AM Rating: Default
I'm a 15 MInstrel and I didn't have to kill a single mob :) I went to all three Sages in all three towers (camelot, S blk mnts, and..the one right across the double bridge) and talked to them all. They gave me a riddle to solve, and all you had to do was tell her the answer. The answer to my riddle was "star", but I've heard of others who have had "book" as an answer.
    Erm..

The infos a bit screwed up here. This is just one of the variants to the Travelers Way Quest (beginning of the Camelot Trainer Quests). You get it at level 7 from your main trainer in Camelot. ANY class could recieve ANY of the possible quests. Im a sorcerer and I got the spider eye one while other sorcerers may get the kill a demon one. Regardless, it eventually gets you to the 'epic' one supposedly, but I dunno how good the epic is other than I believe you get it at level 15 or 25 if you've done all the prerequired quests.

In other words, this is the same quest thats called Travelers Way - You Minstrels may get this quest or the demon one or another travelers way quest, minstrels get the same stuff everyone else does. The reward, however, is class specific.
    Different ,,,,

I've finished this quest at level 8 yesterday.
The starter NPC is not the Trainer in the Academy but the one located at "12" on cannotlinkto Camelot's map.

Bline in humbertown asked me to kill the Weaken Demon in Camelot Hills. You can find this red rock demon (Fire imp in EQ Lavastorm without wings) wandering arround the Demon tower. It was green to me and not that hard using ruby slash and Dischordand Tone.

It dropped various things including a green gem.

After giving this gem to Bline I received a AC14 CHA3 DEX2 Bonux +1 green leather pant that cons yellow at level 8.

Very nice reward and really minstrel's oriented.
My main problem was that all my equipment was blue/red dyed and I have had to speed a few silvers to change blue parts to green :).

Is the starter NPC (minstrel guild trainer), the same guy in The Academy? I've spoken to him a few times and never gotten this quest.
