Minstrel Guide 02/28/04 7:32 PM
ok, ive taken time to try and come out with a good minstrel guide for you new minstrels out there. its still a work in progress, and not compleated, but it will be done before the end of this week. any comments or suggestions on my guide would be greatly apreciated. you can also find this guide on my forum, which is in my sig.

Starting class: rouge
Available races: Highlander, Saracen, Briton
Spec able Skills: Instrument, Slash, Thrust, and Stealth.
Available armor: cloth, Leather, Studded, Chain.

Starting out:
Ok, so you’ve decided on making a minstrel in the Albion realm. So the first thing you need to do is make it. First, pick a race that seems suitable for you. Highlanders and strong and have more hit points then Britons or Saracens will, but have less dexterity and quickness. Britons are the middleman of the 3 classes, so you can mold them into what ever kind of minstrel you want. Saracens have very high dexterity and quickness, but have less strength and constitution. After your done picking your race, you have 30 starting points to spend. And there’s a couple ways to spend them;

*10 cha, 10 str and 10 con is a good way for a Saracen to make up for there low str/con
*10 cha, 5 str, 5 con, 5 dex and 5 qui
*10 cha, 10 dex, 5 con and 5 qui is good for a highlander
*10 cha, 10 str, 5 dex and 5 con is good for a Briton

*notice that theres always 10 into your charisma, and this is because charisma is what your DD’s (direct damage) damage is based on, as well as other skills in the instrument spec.

Getting to level 5:
This task should be relatively easy for you to do. When you start off, you’ll be by your rouge trainer. Talk to him and get your first quest (click on or type what your trainer says in the [ ] area) check your journal if you forget what you have to do. Also, starting in SI is the best place to start. Note that you will get a new quest after every level you gain, so check with your trainer after you level.

For level one, swamp goo is what you should kill as well as dragon flys. You can find these in the swamp/pond area in SI, just out of the town. Just follow the road. Kill these till you level.

For level two, just pretty much follow the same advice for level one, kill swamp goo. And don’t forget your trainer quests.

For level three, I would advise that you know what weapon skill you want to spec in (see weapon section) and go ahead and train in that skill once especially if you haven’t gotten a weapon drop from a mob. After that, you should go kill undead mobs to the right of the lake you were hunting from before (facing away from town) or you can go and kill urchin’s that spawn to the left of the lake (left side of the road into the forest.) during the day, but note that undead can also be found there at night.
You also might want to do kill tasks at level three, which can be obtained by talking to named guards (also note, that not all guards do this at your level, you have to ask around) but you will only be able to get three.

For level fore, follow level three’s steps. The only difference is that you will want to do the kill tasks this time, and you will get 4 of them.

Now finally your level 5, and its time to talk to your trainer…

Specing your minstrel:
Ok, specing your minstrel is probably the easiest thing you will be doing. Pretty much, all you do is spec in instrument until you can’t anymore, and anything left over is put into weapon until level 40, then you can worry about your stealth skill. Good end-game specs will look like this;

50 inst, 31 stealth, 29 weapon
50 inst, 26 stealth, 34 weapon

these are the most common ones out there right now. Most minstrels will not go any less than 25 stealth because that’s when they get climb wall*. And almost every minstrel will go 50 instrument because of the 50 ablative chant, which takes off 70hp of dmg every 6 seconds, I.E;

If I came up with my warrior and hit you for 140 damage with my axe, and your ablative is up then it will only be 70 damage. But, this will not happen again for 6 seconds, so don’t be pissed if you get hit for full damage in the next hit.

*Climb wall is a level 25 stealth ability that lets you climb up “climb points” on keep walls.

What weapon to pick:
This is probably the most common question when playing a minstrel, slash or thrust. And ill try to give you the +’s and –‘s of both of them.

Slash
Slash, is what most minstrels will argue as the best weapon to pick, because of there 29th level style, amethyst slash. It also will do relatively more damage then thrust, but is slower then most thrust weapons. Slash damage is based on strength.
