Guards is only great when the mobs are attacking the person u are guarding.
EX. 50 Shield + 11 Shield + MoB 5 Tank can guard an Icer with almost no trouble against 20+ grapes. Now if the shield tank has the mobs targeting HIM then he will go SPLAT instantly. This is why reaver is fail becuase he will die fast you want the person who is being guarded to HAVE aggro not the guard tank. ...
interesting fact about guard. it does not check number of attackers (and therefore not sheild size).
while your block rate vs multiple attackers is highly limited for yourself, guarding for others is pretty much perfect vs all.
if this is correct, then a scout or a heretic with 50+11(10%, mob5, dex5) would be able to guard for someone just as well as someone with a large shield...

well you're right as far as what they said in that post. blocking for yourself it makes a difference, but they are saying that guarding for somebody else, it doesn't.

Well..next time I get a Keep group going I will take my Shield Merc out and give that theory a dry run..guarantee I know the results..but its always fun to go splat in the name of science hehe

i believe that information to be wrong and outdated.
that is how shield used to work, 6+ years ago, and scouts made awesome guardbots at that time.
but not anymore... it was nerfed because 2 paladins cross guarding each other was pretty much invincible...
now guard has the same limitations as normal blocking.

I also believe that large shields do make a difference in the amount of blocks per swing speed possible. I have tried blocking with my rr8 scout. (415 dex + mob5 +10block bonus + 50+17 shield) and I still cannot use it on any of the higher lvl keeps when trying to block for my SM or wiz team. However, my pally. with a whole lot less dex, blocks everything.

no, each shield size has a max block%
large is like 85% or 95%, med is like 70% and small is like 50%
or something like that
and the best blocker period is the kibbie warrior.

What you loose in possible dex differential, you gain in 250 spec af + heal chant or ablative.
I can take my pally and my bain. with no buff bot or buffs from others... and afk at fins indefinitely.
Try that with a warrior.

and you will still be wrong.
the best blocker is kibbie warrior due to the 10% bonus to the main tank weapon table... which means they block better the higher their shield skill + dex than any others.
pally with 250 dex and 61 shield will have lower block % than a kibbie warrior with 225 dex and 55 shield skill.
now for utility with speccable shield, the pally may be best overall, but nobody can beat a kibbie warrior for blocking ability.
you are getting confused.
i said best blocker, not best blocker with utility. notice the difference?

I remember a SS posted way back on Guinivere (think it was Guin...) of 2 Paladins shield blocking each other taking out the Alb Prince in DF (this was before Darkness Rising expansion) was about a dozen screenshots of the Prince's HP going down, and after an hour or so he died lol.

As for guard..too many areas to be argued for a clear "Best" in class. Ayup kobby are good..but..what about a Saracen Piercing Arms ? Highest growth rate in Dex, and piercing is not 50/50. Cant be I have too many pierce toons and its just no way 50/50. And my personal favorite...I have a moo Hero that Id take up against any kobby as Guard for a pboe or cross guard duty. If you are just using as a follow block-bot..meh doesnt really matter cause your not going to be able to optimize your Guard capability anyways. If your actually playing the Guard...then it all comes down to the person playing the toon.

the cap in PvE is 99%. that is figured per an "ideal" mob setup by mythic. which is top end blue. so at 50 its a level 44 mob.
now, all the primary tanks top off at like 113-115% block against this blue mob. now as this mob gets higher level, you start running into level penalties. that kibbie warr not counting RRs ( which help it more than other class/races ) gets like ~121%.
the higher the level of the mob, the lower your block% is. against a purple ( 61 level mob ) you are looking at like a 25-30% penalty. for most tanks, that would drop you to a like 85% block, but that kibbie warr is like 95-96% block...
higher level the mob, the higher % block you still have.
thats why kibbie warr is best blocker. not best blocker with utility, but best blocker as they cap out higher than anyone else. period. its game mechanics.

Sorry but I have to disagree. First off PVE blockcap is no longer 99%....and I can and have out GUARDED many a class of tank with guard. And I am just curious..but how is it that Kobbie Warriors have that much higher percentage than ALL other race/class combo's ?
Not being a poop just trying to see if there is some information that I am lacking is all.

a saracen pally is a better blocker to run with than a kobby warrior, they will both block almost exactly the same % at higher rr (and thats easy to do on this server). and the pally brings so much more to the table. However, Were I to have 3 blockers in my team, I would go pally, warrior, warden. Warrior does have an aoe demez shout that is nice, so the toon is not totally useless as a blocker, and the higher dex means that your blocker will be viable at a lower rr.

i like heavytank blockers so i know they can take a beating. its why i put aom5 on my warden

for the wskill table, heavy tanks have the highest base, and mid warrs get a 10% bonus to their wskill for same stat/spec
so no matter what, they are 10% better wskill for their shields.
and your block % is figured their weapon wskill vs your shield wskill
and wskill is spec + stat
kibbies are the mids with the highest base dex
thusly, kibbie warriors are the best blocker.
other race/class may have more utility and that may be important to you, but they are not the best blocker.
make sense?

but warrior is by far superior to pallies in every aspect
if your blocker is being used for chants above blocking then you obviously failing to start the grp
i think the question being asked in the thread is not whos the best blocker but how much you think you know about guard
and the answer is:

it doesnt matter cause kibby warrior is better than all other tanks
