Rain of Fire, Ice, Annihilation

Just wondering if anybody has or uses RA's and if they are worth the 10% damage add. Herald just says its a 15 min RA but doesn't state the duration of the abliity. Is it worth the pts spent?

the duration is 30 sec.
it is 10% bonus on your dps so it is a 1.65 dommage add even an enchanter with 5 in enchantements does better then that.
so no it's not worth the point.

If you want an add dommage put a charge on your weapons.

Don't forget that it is also resisted as a very low level spell, which = zero damage add.

In a short (I fought 3 opponents) fight, my RoA did just slightly less than my DoTs. I like it for my template.

Guess ill have to try pendragon and see if it actually works.. If in fact it did slightly less damage then my DOTS anything in the 30-40 dd per attack would be a very nice damage add potentially deciding a fight. Its a damage add not a proc or dot so how could it be resisted?

I think you would be better off save the early points that come quick and easy for something more useful like purge.

And RoA adds 10% of unstyled so dont think your PA is gonna get a 10% boost if you hit for 60 unstyled then your 1000(Yeah right) damage PA will give you 6 extra points =) aikawarazu

So many abilities remain unused just because of what people read on the boards...

-----------
"it is 10% bonus on your dps so it is a 1.65 dommage add even an enchanter with 5 in enchantements does better then that."
-----------

It's 10% - per level. I have ROA3. My average unstyled damage using 2 fortified stilettos is 50 dmg. After activating ROA it adds 15 damage on average - to both of my weapons. It makes a significant difference in damage output for a dual wielder.

-----------
"Don't forget that it is also resisted as a very low level spell, which = zero damage add."
-----------

ROA is never resisted completely. It is a damage add based on unstyled weapon damage, not a spell. It is affected by resists of it's damage type, but the 15 damage average i mentioned already accounts for that(it will hit for more than that on someone with no resist of that type)

In my opinion, 'rains of' is an ability on par with, if not better, than mastery of pain. Some math:

Assuming a (+100) from style, i would hit for 150 damage, average RvR crit is 25% of that( 38 ) and MOP4 would make that 38 damage 20% more likely, averaging 38*0.20=7.6 damage per swing from the ability.

On the other hand, ROA3 adds 15 damage per swing, almost twice as much! And that for a cost of 19 points while MOP4 costs a total(including prereqs) of 24. Bottom line, rain is, IMHO, better than MOP if you dont get into a fight where you would need RA help more often than once every 15 minutes.

Well RoA is worthless just put a dmg add charge on any item and you got like 9 or 10 levels of RoA for no RA points!!! All in all it will never be useful aikawarazu

"Well RoA is worthless just put a dmg add charge on any item..."

You cannot replace ROA with an item charge, for several reasons.

First and foremost, ROA goes on top of any damage adds you might already have:

[02:49:06] You attack redtail triton with your stiletto and hit for 63 (+ damage!
[02:49:06] You hit redtail triton for 27 extra damage!
[02:49:06] You hit redtail triton for 17 extra damage! <-- ROA3

Second, ROA can be used in combat:

[02:48:57] You hit redtail triton for 22 extra damage!
[02:48:59] redtail triton evades your attack!
[02:49:01] redtail triton hits your leg for 53 (-15) damage!
[02:49:01] redtail triton evades your attack!
[02:49:02] You cast a Rain of Annihilation Spell!
[02:49:02] Your weapons are able to pierce the spirit of your enemies.
[02:49:03] You attack redtail triton with your stiletto and hit for 64 (+ damage!
[02:49:03] You hit redtail triton for 27 extra damage!
[02:49:03] You hit redtail triton for 14 extra damage!

While the charge from an item can not:

[02:45:06] redtail triton attacks you and misses!
[02:45:07] You attempt to use tempered Keen siluric leather gloves.
[02:45:07] You must end your current action before using an item!
[02:45:07] You attack redtail triton with your stiletto and hit for 90 (+12) damage!

Third, charged items are all on the same timer, so by using a DMG add charge, you are unable to use other useful charges, like end regen or haste or heal, for 2 minutes or so:

[02:46:23] You attempt to use tempered Keen siluric leather gloves.
[02:46:23] You must wait 117 more seconds to discharge an item!

And last, the item with the charge must be equipped, so in addition to the above limitations, you also are giving up a potential reactive effect:

[02:44:48] You can't use that item from your backpack. Equip it first.

Not to mention charges require money and recharging the item every 10 uses is a hassle. But to everyone his own i guess
