I keep seeing this in every thread where a Snare/DD is brought up for any caster.

Last I checked (admittedly, a year or more ago) this wasn't the case. Root would give immunity to your snare, but not the other way around.

When did this change?

I was testing this on pen, before the bd changes went live. I was snaring some guard and as he reached me i tried to qc root. I'm sure it said 'cant have this effect again'.

So thats my evidence.

Try it on a player.

It shouldn't invoke immunity. No other DD+snares invokes immunity. If it does, feedback it as it's clearly in error.

This works this way for both AE and ST DD+snares.

I know it shouldn't, but is it effected by root immunity? ie: target is root immune, so snare doesn't stick?

I'm still relearning some things as I jump back into both grouping AND playing a whole new style of BD, so excuse some ignorance on a few points (especially since I've never used either BD snare until a few days ago.)

Snare nukes does not give root immunity.

Unless it was fixed, I thought the way it worked was that snaring someone didn't give them root immunity, but that if a person had root immunity, they couldn't be snared, if that makes sense.

That is how it works. Beacuse root is a 99 percent snare.

When i tested it on pend it was different to that, so something chaned when it went live.

So unfortunately if you root, then it makes snare component of your spec spell innefective, which i find a little stupid.

That's correct. I tested this a good bit. Snare nukes give no immunity to anything. if you root someone, they're immune to ALL snares (snare nukes & roots) until their timer goes off. Also, if you were wondering, against a stoicism tank with 22 cold resist and Det5, the 30 second snare nuke lasts about 3-4 seconds. But, against a caster with capped cold resists, it lasts about 26 seconds. Skald snare is counted as a root (gives immunity).

One exception - BD focus snare works no matter what, as long as it isn't resisted(root immune characters can still be focus snared). Also, BD focus snare has a rediculous range once it's cast (the cast portion has a 1500 range, but once it's on the target can move beyond 3k range and the focus snare keeps on keeping on). I haven't tested this too extensively, but it seems that right after dropping focus from a focus snare, if you try to recast on the same target, it was almost always resisted 2 or 3 times before catching again. If you spam it, you wind up dropping and reapplying the snare. But, spamming it doesn't give the 2-3 resists that breaking focus another way (moving, getting hit) does. Oh, and focus snare doesn't drop due to the target being damaged (at least it didn't break when I sicced my pet on the target i was focus snaring).

^ I assume you're on a Euro server? Focus snare was removed in 1.87 for an AE snare nuke.

I've used it on MA trains with reasonable results, it does about 12 pts of dmg but can help your Healer kite away and get a few heals in.

The AOE was removed, but the single target focus snare is still there. I never really looked into it when we had it, but i'm intrigued by the range on the focus snare... I wish i'd used the AOE version more when we had it.

I really like the aoe snarenuke. I wish they'd lower the cast time to 2.6 seconds, but i may be dreaming.

The AoE was single target as well I think.

There was a bug with it, where it would be a HUGE power drain when it was AoE. You'd lose your powerbar pretty fast. At first they just disabled the thing, then they "Fixed" it, but was only really single target after that.

ah, ok, well then i don't feel so bad about not using it. I remember it not really working like i thought it should, but i didn't do a lot of investigating.
