Volley lets you fire a given number of arrows (based on lvl of volley) at a gt.

50: Eld, Ment, Ns, Druid x2, Rm, Hunter, Sb

40+: Rang, Druid, Anim, Chanter, Bd, Scout, Bard, Sham, Cab

Volley allows you to fire at least 3 arrows, depending on the level of volley that you have, at a set groundtarget. This can be useful when the enemy is in a place that you might not have line of sight on, but have a groundtarget set there will allow you a chance to hit them. This is especially useful when you have 2 or more archers assisting one another firing at the same groundtarget.

I have found that volley even works when you are nearsighted as well.

Volley is uselss for hitting a single target.

Here's how it works: Set a GT up to 2300 range (but remember, height counts against you, so from a level 10 tower, your effective range is reduced to about 1600). Hit volley and it fires an arrow. Every shot has a CHANCE to hit a target within the area of affect (about 300 radius). It doesn't pop BT, it can be blocked, and it likes to hit PFs, and siege in preference to the enemy, it seems.

Where it's useful is in keep defense. You can have one person on the roof, or even outside the keep setting GTs at whatever corner of the keep or tower the enemy is hiding. You can safely volley from inside the CK.

It marginally less useful in siege attack, but if you play around with the ranges at a friendly tower, you can figure out how far it is to volley the large sige point from a tower corner, and hit targets you normally wouldn't be able to reach. Volley hits targets on the highest level, and doesn't go through roofs, unless the tower or CK is below 25%. So during a tower take, you can run into the ground floor, set a GT right at your feet, start volleying, and hit defenders on the roof. It is actually fairly usefull to keep casters interrupted if you have a couple of archers doing this. Otherwise, it's just a good way to get RPs fro when your realm mates charge the roof....

Cheers,
Wylann, retired as of...tomorrow.

I use volley in only a couple situations, but when I use it I like it.

The first is keeps and towers when attacking, I will always target oil. Combined with enough volleys and runemaster groundtargets you can effectively keep people off oil. Regrettably, the normal result isn't so much this as it is the more common slow harassment of said oil pourer. Either way, I'm hitting somebody so I'm happy:P

The second is in keep/tower defense. If it's too hairy to get on top and shoot(rarely, I've usually got the guts to be there), I'll use it in conjunction with oil to hit door people, or I'll use it around the corner in the hopes of interupting the healers at a key moment such as an oil pour.

The third is on bridges. I've noticed that visibles have gotten wise to the concept of staying around corners, often in the bottom of bridge towers. Assign that as a volley target and smoke them out--use this one with caution, though, because your visible too whem volleying.
