I’m creep spec (dd/snare pet). Why why why is it when i get aggro (by running in agro range) or pull with my con debuf, then NOT do any kind of damage, my controlled pet can NEVER grab agro off me? Isn’t that the entire Point of the pet? Is this a bug? or is it suppose to be this stupid?

Some rules:

The con debuff draws aggro .. if the con debuff is resisted, it draws more aggro than if it landed (/boggle).

If the executioners spell is resisted, the animist gets all the aggro from the pet (unless the pet did the initial pulling)

If a FnF is resisted, all aggro goes to the Animist. If a FnF hits the target, 60% of the aggro goes to the CONTROLLED pet, 20% aggro goes to the FnF, 20% aggro goes to the Animist.

If a FnF is destroyed, 100% of the FnF's aggro is transferred to the Animist.

If you damage the mob with lifetaps/bombers etc, or get resisted, all that aggro is accrewed directly to you.

Few things that can 'help' a bit. Damage shield your pet, then make sure the mob paths through the pet .. it will whack at the pet and take damage from the damage shield .. this damage is solely the pets damage, which, if you only con debuffed, should be enough to peel the mob to your pet. (assuming you do not have FnFs getting resisted).

Its *very* odd and didn't used to work this way - they changed it due to the old FoPs (pre stacking fop nerf) and PvE exploitation .. with that, we lost our ability to bypass aggro by letting them kill non-damaging pets (ligenous sheaths/vents) - which saddened me greatly.

As a creeper, if you are mass killing, be sure you are mass killing at highest con, blues - otherwise there is some big risk involved. If you are using your controlled to kill OJs one at a time, be sure to allow it to path through your controlled - it helps.

Well, some of the time, i would just aggro by range alone, and my controlled couldn’t pick up aggro. I wasn’t aware that resisted spells sent the aggro to me. I thought since my controlled is actually my Pet, that it worked like other pets that it had its own aggro pool separate from mine. I can understand the FnF pets being aggro linked to me, but the controlled, given that it cant move, is pretty stupid that it can transfer its aggro to me. The entire point of pets, at least in my opinion, is to keep the attention off the pets master.

I always dmg shield my controlled, I only recently started to stand on my pet so the shield would get hit.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah if I remember, Ill look for the Herald notes that describe the changes. The reason why our pet works differently is because of the FnFs - and the pet cannot distinguish wether or not we have FnFs up that are actually hitting the mob or something.

Same goes for theurgists if you played one with their elementals, if the thing whiffs, the theurgist can itself with aggro if the mob is faster than the pet and the pet doesnt land a shot.

Setting your main pet to "attack" a specified mob may also help..

Obviously not with mass pulls, just be sure it is set to aggro..

There is another important consideration.

Distance.

A mob, pursuing or not, will always calculate agro in accordance to range. Healers have known an used this for a long time to keep heal agro to a minimum.

As a Creeper you should not be having the mobs beating your controlled anyway. That is the beauty of unbreakable DD/snare. Kiting.

If you do need the mob to beat the pet then use the Verdant pet, regardless of your spec. (Well not entirely regardless, as I have hear of some folks with nothing into Verdant). The Verdant pet will cast taunt (low level is often resisted or simply ignored) yet when the mob gets near it, the pet will melee. Combined with a Damage Shield (And Damage Add if you go with the Caster Disease CL path) it is great for maintaining agro.

Back to DD snare kiting though.

If you are kiting and you find you need to get the very PO'd at you mob off you, loop the mob right over the top of the pet and make a sharp turn so it retains a close proximity to the pet over a full tick (6 seconds). This is the surest way to get it onto the pet.

With good pet control and a decent sence of time you can snare kite 3 mobs. Sure you can rotate which mob the pet is snaring and kite 5 but 3 allows for 2 castings per target to ensure snare in case of a resist.

First..

"Same goes for theurgists if you played one with their elementals, if the thing whiffs, the theurgist can itself with aggro if the mob is faster than the pet and the pet doesnt land a shot"

I do have a thrug (see below) but the biggest advantage of the thrug pets, is if send in the pets into a group of mobs, at one mob, and the caster doesnt do anything to those other mobs, the aggro gained from those other mobs will not transfer to the caster..

aka. a thrug can chain cast pets into a group, targeting one mob, and not worry about the others that aggro the pets. Once they die, the aggro will evaporate.

Of course, thrug pets also use up more power and don't last as long. But hey..

Secondly, This particular situation that has got me worked up, im sure also has Every caster worked up. This was an instance of several bugs/problems colliding into one massive death.

“As a Creeper you should not be having the mobs beating your controlled anyway. That is the beauty of unbreakable DD/snare. Kiting.”

True.. If I was in an open space…..

When this death occurred, I was working on one of my epics. That means I was in an instance dungeon. That means, the pets didn't always cast right where I wanted them to, which ment, they didn't always have the line of sight that I thought they would, on top of the fact that dungeons STILL have line of sight problems. (you know the one.. You have a clear line of sight, straight ahead of you, but the there is a clipping wall that’s keeping you from casting on it, thus you get “cannot see target”.

I did not want to place the pet past this clipping area, as that would put it in agro range of several mobs, and I didn't want to face 4 or 5 at once. I had to place my FnF’s around corners and such so They wouldn’t start pulling mobs on their own. I would set the controlled in the hall, and the fnf’s in the other hall so when the mob reached the controlled, the FnF’s would see, and start nuking.

Now what happened was, that clipping los issues. It worked ok for 2 pulls, as I just sat on my controlled, and the dmg shield helped transfer the agro.. The last pull I did however, pulled 3 mobs, and while my pet did get one, the other 2 went after me, and killed me. By this time, the FnFs were bombing all 3, and there was no way my controlled could grab agro now that the fnf’s had hit the other 2.

Primarily, this was just another example of the dungeons STILL not being caster friendly. These were only Yellow con mobs that I should have easily been able to deal with. Its just the fact that Animist pets don't handle agro the same as other pets that kinda screwed up things for me and left me asking.. wtf?

"Primarily, this was just another example of the dungeons STILL not being caster friendly. "

Dungeons can be as caster friendly as they want, but until they are a single floor and completely flat, they will *NEVER* be animist (well shroom) friendly. Its a bug with the snap-points, the shrooms tend to often spawn inside the ground (though they look normally placed to the client).

Yeah, I used the theurgist comparison more for the way the whiffs work than the pets - elementals are like our bombers - which, if mobs aggro our bombers (they do if you bomber into a clump, go figure) they also will not aggro the animist.
