Sureshot helps in ranged fights vs other archers or vs mages without MoC (or nightshades who are trying to kill you with their dd ;) ). You switch to sureshot to interrupt them and keep/take the initiative. Use it always when you have 75% life or more because even if it interrupts a few hits may pass.

Volley is used basically when you can't use you normal attack and that can happen for 3 reasons:
-you're nearsighted
-you don't have a line of sight (on the roof of a tower, at the bottom of a keep, behind a wall)
-you don't want to expose yourself to enemies attacks (too many ennemis and to risky to use normal attacks)
It can be used als to uncover stealthers when you know they're in a certain area (archers during sieges mainly).

^^^ Ditto

Also:

1. Volley's very useful when sync'd with more scouts, all of you sharing the same groundtarget.

2. Extremely handy when you're inside a tower/keep, you're being zerg'd, and it's either too risky to fire from atop the building or your foes are on the door.

3. Use this macro to quickly place a volley gt at max range on level ground:
    /macro 2295 /groundset 2295
2295 is a lot more reliable since 2300 will often give you an "out of range" error because you're elevated by standing atop a cricket. ;)

4. Don't forget that you can change the elevation of your gt. The F5 key is the default gt key, and you can move it up/down by holding down on F5 while then pressing A/S; you can use the mouse in mouselook mode, too--I forget, but I think it's the mousewheel.

I have only used sureshot successfully once, me VS shamman, both of us in a swamp. Other than that one occassion it has been of no use.

Casters do to much damage to fast for you to survive to employ it. MOC and quick cast CC counter it. The reduction in damage makes your attack laughable, I suspect heal font mostly can keep up with it. Depending on you how slow your bow is casters can attack through your interrupts. It looks good on paper but in the real world a useless ability.

Volley on the other hand is a usefull ability. GT do not need LOS so you can hit the people camping font etc on the edge of keeps/towers. Also usefull for hit people camped in bridges. Targetting issues and the fact it does not puncture BT make it more annoying than dangerous untill you get multiple people volleying onto the same GT.

I forgot to mention that using Volley with a gt placed in front of enemy-held tower/keep doors is an excellent way to pop stealthers. :D

Also, you can initiate Volley and fire at multiple locs by setting new gts between shots. It's a handy tool for popping stealthers in a large area.

Sureshot- never realy use it. I die too fast for it to be a consideration. I fire a shot, they cast iterupts, then cast the hell out of me, I relase and rebuff. I stay away from caster when solo for the most part.

How do you set GT on a tower? Is there a key you have to press to move it up?

Thx

Here's what I archived on my site:
Setting - To set a GT (ground target), use /groundset <distance> which places your GT on the ground at the requested distance and in the direction you're facing.

Changing elevation - To change the elevation of your GT, hold down F5 (default GT key) and using the A or Z keys to move it up or down. At this time, you can't set a negative elevation, unfortunately, which would be nice when defending from the roof of a building structure (tower, keep, etc.).

Resetting GT - /groundset 0 brings your x and y coordinates back centered on you. Resetting the z axis requires your to use /groundset 0 0.

If using mouselook - While holding down F5, move your mouse forwards/backwards to move the GT closer/further away from you, and use the scroll wheel to move the GT up or down.

Tip: Type /macro gt0 /groundset 0 0 to make a macro that resets your GT at your feet.
Tip: For archers using Volley, use /macro 2295 /groundset 2295 as the max volley range is 2300.

Volley I use it all the time.

As for sureshot, I'm not specced high enough to use it. Not to mention, I have to agree it would be pointless against a caster.

If the enemy is attacking Bold ck from the west bridge (and there's a lot of rangers up top), one of my favorite things to use is volley. I'll pop a breather, pull out the immolated bow, and hug the bridge just underwater (there's a little nook flush against the ramp that's just under the water line. It's a great place to hide. Only stealthers would see you there, and visibles rarely look there).

I'll set my gt from stealth , creep underwater, and volley to my heart's content. Volley serves as a great interrupter. When the Albs finally rush the enemy, I get a lot of realm points (if there's 15 or more, I complete a solo mission easily, so there's 750 rps, + all the points from the targets I've hit). I'm able to help my realm from my hiding place far more than I ever could firing one shot and running for my life. Rangers are too quick to assist, and with the distance bonus from elevation, I'm a dead scout.

Hey BZ :) Good to see ya, bro. Doing pretty good. I'm making Brettania nuts with 10 million templates. I'm in the process of making Nuno my main toon. Trying to solo on my arms or infil has become tedious. I figure my scout will give me more chance to kill and get away. When Brettania's on, we can duo up a storm!

How are the classic servers? I see you're the #1 scout there, no surprise there ;)

Yup

I'm loving it here. Whole other ball game here. Lots of fun. Glad to see you still play. The tanks here don't have it as bad. But I know it would be a hard decision to leave and come to another server with all your friends there.

I know it was for me.

My new alliance is really good, but nothing on the family enviroment we had back on tristan.
