DoT Application....Is My Math Correct? 03/15/06 7:39 PM
I'm currently working on a Nightshade on a classic server as my new project, and I'm liking it quite a bit!

In the process of looking up a spec and stats for my new Shade, I came to an interesting conclusion: I can apply a DoT poison, a bleed effect, and my newly implemented Magic DoT (yes, I just realized this, I'm a Nightshade n00b :P).

When I went and researched the delve info for the end-game equivalents of these three things, I discovered that with Lifebane+Viper3, Perforate Artery Bleed, and the final Magical NS DoT, the delve damage becomes a wopping 842 damage.

The Lifeband is 64 per tick, and 5 total ticks. With Viper III, this is increased 100%.
The Perf Bleed does 7 damage per tick, over 10 ticks.
And the final Magical DoT delves for 22 damage over 6 ticks.

Did I miscount? Do resists cut into this damage severely? Or will the ammount of damage I do in reality far exceed the delve amount like most other things? Any help is appreciated! =)

Almost 1000 damage from DoTs alone seems a little mindboggling to me...

Alexander reached the edge of his empire and wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer.

you forget the over time issue.

even if a dot did 10 damage and ticked 1000 times, it would take over 2 hours to kill someone with 2000 hp

also bleeds tick down to 0 then stop so its more like 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
and after resists your not going to do much.

dots help but our fights are in no way ment to last that long.

I do over 1500 damage before resists in dots, but 20 seconds is long enough for something funny to happen, or even purge.

All dots (and all other env poisons) applied through the envenom skill are Body-based dmg. You probably already know that body is one of the resists that most assassin try to cap, plus they get an extra 10% from CL. I was lifebane viper3 for 2 years and recently specced out due to resistances and Remedy for all.

If you are going to be reliant on lifebane viper3, i would strongly recommend reapplying the dot every swing (switching weapons). Right now you are doing approximately 120 per tick every 5 seconds. Over 20 seconds, you are delivering about 600 dmg. If you can reapply over that time, and swing at cap, you can increase the dmg to 1481. A huge leap that would require 13 pre-envenomed weapons in your inventory. Whilst most may not go to those extremes, the principal holds. You are essentially beating the natural tick speed on the dot.
