If anyone has testing to prove that damage per hit is affected by your primary stat, I would welcome it. Otherwise, I have not seen nor heard anything to that affect. Damage overall is likely improved because you will hit much more often and faster usually. This may make it seem like your hitting harder but you are not.
Weapon damage is based on: speed, DPS, level, weapon spec and item bonuses.
Weapon skill is based on: level, weapon spec, bonuses and primary stat.
Remember, this isn't D&D here. This is a different game and the math works out to my knowledge as outlined.

Sure as hell beats many of the other ones I've seen so far :)
I am 90% sure that my damage per hit is improved by STR though, otherwise wouldn't my damage seem lower when buffed? From the quickness buff lowering my attack speed I mean.

From to what I am to understand, you buffed yourself(you didnt specify which buffs so i am assuming ALL buffs) and concluded that since your weapon damage went up AND your weapon skill went up that they were directly realted. That might not be the case. Assuming dex effects weaponskill, lets say you are using a dex based weapon and your damage modifier is based on dex(like some piercing weapons are) and not str. So you buff yourself expecting your weaponskill to go up and it does since weaponskill is based on dex, BUT at the same time your dex increase increased the damage you did with your weapon since your weapon might be a dex based weapon. Basicaly, I am saying that more then 1 thign happens when you increase a stat, so maybe it was a pure dmg modifier that increased dmg, not the fact that the weaponskill went up... Mignon, you have a lv47 blademaster even, I just noticed that. Listen man, do yourself a favor and just quit, you obviously read the melee mechanics and got confused or pulled up some very wrong information.
I can tell you right now my damage increases from about 100 to 170 with yellow str buffs, unmodified qui. The damage increment is dramatic.
Feel free to log on right now and see for yourself. Ask every lv50 in melee in the game. Ask every TL. Pull up any accurate online source. They will all tell you, damage is modified by str. Str modified weaponskill. |

Legends, not ALL dmg is modified by str, some weapons liek pierce weapons are modified by 50% dex and 50% str i believe. Derricks, read a little closer bud:

Dex has absolutely no affect on my weaponskill. I am slash, so it's 100% strength. |

When I see the test data, I will believe it.
Until then, I have to stand by the information I have. I hit more often and faster when I am fully buffed but I don't hit harder.
I can only go on what I have seen and read. Feel free to point me to tests, logs, grab bags, anything that would indicate that I am wrong.

Ok then explain this, go tothe character builder, and click on a blademaster, then in the left column, where it says what level you get the certain specs and armor at...click on pierce, then on blunt.....
Mig, their is some info for the str/dex modifiers there... int eh char builder in the description of the skill.

Think of it logicly. If you're stronger, you hit harder.
Damage of weapons is effected as follows:
Pierce: 50% str/dex
Crush: 100% Str
Slash: 100% Str
Two-hand: 100% Str
Weaponskill AND damage rises when you buff these stats.

Derricks2, one-handed thrust weapons, flex, and h2h are 50% dex / 50% str. An easy demonstration is buffing yourself with str then dex, then both. I do believe that is what you're asking for.
Everything else, including two-handed thrust weapons, are 100% str. Although I've heard rumored that test results showed something like 75/25 for some two-handed weapons, although I have absolutely no source for their credibility in which I heard this rumor (it's most likely false or a bug, didn't care to dig into it). |

Rethorn: I am looking for credible evidence. I don't see it. Common sense in a gaming engine doesn't matter jack.

| WS directly corresponds to weapon basedamage. 5% higher weaponskill is 5% higher weapon basedamage. This has been proven with tests and was one of the explanations given by Mythic when warriors got increased WS in an old patch. |

Personally I think it's wrong to look at the statistic "weaponskill" as a direct modifier on a character. It's merely a summary of all of the factors that contribute to your skill with a weapon. It's a report. It says "You have xx strength (or dex), and you've specced xx in your weapon, and taking that into consideration, I'm going to derive some number and label it weaponskill".
It's really not weaponskill that increases damage, but it is definitely strength (or dex), along with your weapon spec, that increases damage. Well-- spec tightens variance, if you want to get technical. Personally that statistic "weaponskill" is worthless, and misleads more than it helps. NERF THE DISPLAY OF WEAPONSKILL! |

We're not talking about WS. We're talking about Str effecting damage.

I'd be glad to help. Unfortunately, I'm on a 56k and don't have a bot. Currently I have pendragon patches downloaded. To help I'd have to re-DL the normal patches, find someone who will help me in AC, and then pull a few mobs. Then I'd have to Re-DL the pendragon patches. =) Thats about 3 hours right there, assuming I can find a bot at the entrance immediately.

My curiousity has been peeked to know some weaponskill numbers as related to char class/weapon type. Please let me know so i can place how my char stands in comparison. I think that the friar was asking something along this line in the origional post. My char I'll be using is not 50th yet, is Infil at 44th atm. I am just curious to know some average posted weaponskill numbers at 50th. Please take a quick few minutes to check your main char and post here so i can compare or see the differences in some of the classes and 50th relative weaponskill numbers.

Here are my thoughts.
No, I don’t think weapon skill effects damage. From what I’ve seen, weapon skill helps to burn through evade/parry/block abilities.
BUT! Damage is definitely increased by buffing whatever stat is associated with your weapon.
Yes, your damage increases when you get a strength buff. Yes, your weapon skill increases when you get a strength buff.
Does this mean that if you weapon skill is higher, that your damage will also be higher? I don’t believe so. I think these two are mutually exclusive. Weapon skill can be used in to-hot calculations, while your str attribute can be used in damage calculations. It doesn’t mean that weapon skill is used in the damage calculations.
Simply because they are both raised upon getting a buff doesn’t mean these two things are linked. It just means they can both be increased by str buffs.

I tend to agree with you as well, however is there a way to test and prove this?
As stated you could not artificially inflate your weaponskill with buffs because this is what we are trying to evaluate.
So, what about item bonuses? Follow me here, your spec in weapon has an effect on your weaponskill, but we know that it only effects your damage variance based on the % you spec. So if I were to have a 50 + 11 spec, I would have over 100% spec and minimal damage variance. So if I take my spec to say 50 + 1 (or as close to it as possible without changing weapons) I would effectively lower my weaponskill but I should remain in the same variance range correct?
Hopefully this would be enough of a weaponskill change to see if it truly effects damage output taking into consideration overall damage variance. Just a thought on how to test this. Does anyone see any obvious faults in this testing logic?

1. increases average base damage
2. increases minimum and maximum base damage
3. increases style damage
4. increases your chance to hit an opponent (a small amount)
