Is there a Valewalker guide?

A: There is a Pre ToA site: http://www.valewalker.com/

Q: What stat is scythe damage based off of?

A: Strength.

Q: What is the Valewalker's Casting stat?

A: Intellegence.

Q: Does +int affect damage, or just increase VW power pool?

A: Yes, +int affects damage

Q: Does an acuity buff affect a Valewalker?

A: Yes it increaces Lifetap damage.

Q: Can a Valewalker take advantage of a focus staff?

A: No, a Valewalker can equip some staves, but Arboreal focus will have no effect. Arboreal focus can not be SCed onto a scythe.

Q: Does a Valewalker's self haste stack with Druid haste?

A: No.

Q: What are Valewalkers like in PvE?

A: At lower levels they can be frustrating due to the miss rate (suffered by all SI melee classes), however at LvL 50 a Valewalker can chain kill oranges with almost no down time.

Q: How many spec points do Valewalkers get per level?

A: 1.5

Q: Do Valewalkers autotrain any skills?

A: No.

Q: How should I spec my Valewalker?

A: 44 scythe (for the back stun) and 34 arboreal (for the 33% absorb buff) are considered the minimums.

50 scythe 38 arboreal 20 parry is the most common spec, it performs well in PvE and RvR. Some with a bot
go 50 scythe 34 arboreal 26 parry.

44 scythe 38 arb 30 parry is a fantastic PvE and 1v1 PvP spec

If you exclusivly do 8 man RvR (where parry is of marginal use), 49 scythe 44 arboreal 4 parry is a good spec, since it has low (or non exixstant) LT variance while retaining high weapon skill.

Q: What is a spec for Thidranki?

A: 20 arboreal 18 scythe 10 parry

Q: How should I spec while leveling?

A: Having done it both ways, I would reccomend high Arb with Scythe a couple of levels below your level until you have 34 arboreal, then go high scythe. It's best to ignore parry until the mini dings.

Q: Where should I hunt with my Valewalker while leveling?

A: There is a lot of good information here: http://vnboards.ign.com/Valewalker_Archive_**Read_Only**/b22327/63438016/?106

Q: What Styles do Valewalkers have?

A: Valewalkers are limited to scythe only: http://www.camelotherald.com/styles/line.php?line=125

Parry Chain: Sawgrass -> Thorny Shield -> Grasping Roots
Evade Chain: Arboreal Fire -> Foxfire -> Flaming Scythe -> Conflagration
Side Chain: Stunning Blade -> Winter's Scythe -> Blizzard Blade

Q: What Styles should I use in PvE?

A: Typically you would use Sawgrass backed up with Arboreal Fire. Imperfect styles grant the bonus to hit
which is needed, particularly at lower levels. Without endurance song, the taunt is not reccomended.

Q: What Styles should I use in RvR?

A: Ideally you want to use your positionals since they do a lot of damage and they will stun your opponant.
The taunt is useful when you can't get a positional off.

Q: What weapon skill table is a Valewalker on?

A: Valewalkers are on Hybrid+ With 400 str and rr5 a Valewalker will have just over 2000 weapon skill.

Q: What are Scythe growth rates like?

A: They are quite high:

Growth Rate Lv. Style Name:
0.06 2 Reaper
0.90 4 Sawgrass
0.59 6 Taunting Scythe
0.88 8 Arboreal Fire
0.88 10 Stunning Blade
0.94 12 Foxfire
1.18 15 Thorny Shield
0.88 18 Winter's Scythe
1.18 21 Grasping Roots
0.00 25 Nature's Shield
0.88 29 Blizzard Blade
0.00 34 Arboreal Shield
1.18 39 Flaming Scythe
0.99 44 Damaging Grasp
1.30 50 Conflagration

Q: Which styles have AE procs?

A: The third style of each chain (Grasping Roots, Flaming Scythe, Blizzard Blade)

Q: What is Nature's shield and how do I use it?

A: Nature's shield is a special "style", if you target yourself (or an enemy) and hit Nature's shield
you will block almost every arrow fired at you from the front arc. This effect will last until you
next hit something in melee or you use cancelstyle. You can cast while Nature's shield is up, although
it will drop while you are casting, and come back up immediatly after. Emoting causes it to drop breifly too.

Q: What is the fastest and slowest Scythes available?

A: The Moon Crested Scythe is the fastest at 3.6 speed. There are several 6.0 speed scythes available:

Q: Should I use a fast or slow scythe for PvE? What about RvR?

A: In PvE reactionary styles are your bread and butter, so it's easier to use a fast scythe. I duels I prefer a fast scythe. For a melee assist train you will want to use a slow scythe. I quite like a fast scythe when I'm Bodyguarding.

Q: Which ledendary scythe should I get?

A: I'd reccomend a Benthic Scythe (cold) to the chance to debuff the side chain proc.

See http://www.visionofsages.net/toa/Legendary.html

Q: The animations for Stunning Blade and Damaging Grasp are the same, how do I know which I landed?

A: You don't have to know, just hit the following styles in order:

Winter's Scythe, Stunning Blade, Damaging Grasp

You will either get a back stun off or go down the side chain. When you see the animation for Winter's Scythe hit Blizzard Blade.

Q: Is it true that Frigid Mists (the Blizzard blade proc) is limited to 4 targets?

A: Yes.

Q: How many hitpoints does a lvl 50 Valewalker have?

A: Usually around 1900 - 2000 fully buffed.

Q: What artifacts can a Valewalker use?

A: http://www.toascrolls.com/scrolls/index.asp?action=showclass&realm=hib&class=Valewalker

Of these Valewalkers often activate:

Belt of the Sun
Ceremonial bracer
Gem of Lost Memories
Guard of Valour
Shades of Mist
Snakecharmer's Scythe
Spear of Kings

Q: What is the maximum ToA melee damage and style damage available to Valewalkers?

A: Guard of Valour + Gem of Lost Memories + Snakecharmer's Scythe = 10% Melee Damage 2% Style Damage

Guard of Valour + Gem of Lost Memories + Sun Scythe = 8% Melee Damage 4% Style Damage

Guard of Valour + Gem of Lost Memories + ML 10 Scythe = 8% Melee Damage 4% Style Damage

Q: What stats should I aim for in a VW SC template?

A: 100 str, 75 con, 75 qui, >200 hits, +11 scythe are the basics. I'd reccomend trying for at least 75 dex and int too.

Q: Where are some good VW SC templates?

A: http://vnboards.ign.com/Valewalker_Archive_**Read_Only**/b22327/72468810/?56

The later ones are generally better than the earlier ones.

Q: What rr5 ability do Valewalkers get?

A: Vale Defence: 300HP 50% ablative for each person in group.

Q: What RAs to Valewalkers have access to?

A: See this sight for a RA calculator: http://daoc.nisrv.com/RA2/index.html

The highlights are Ichor and Bedazzling Aura of Deflection.

Q: What Master Levels are available to Valewalkers?

A: Battlemaster and Stormlord. Almost every Valewalker is a Battlemaster.

Q: Which Battlemaster abilities are useful for a Valewalker?

A: In epic PvE Essence Flames is very useful since it has High To Hit bonus. In RvR Thrown Weapon, Grapple and Bodyguard are the most useful. All other Battlemaster styles tend to use too much endurance.

Q: Any tips for using Bodyguard?

A: First set up two macros:

/macro MK_TARG /macro /target %t
/macro BG /g >>>>> Bodyguarding %t STAY STILL! <<<<<

The first is for setting up a macro to target who you are BGing (you want to stay close to them, and it helps to not have to target them manually). The second is to let everyone know if you BG someone else.

BG drops for about 2 seconds every time you cast, or the person you are Bodyguarding moves. Melee does not break Bodyguard. Bodyguard works if you are within 500 units of the person you are Bodyguarding.

Q: Does CC affect Bodyguard?

A: No, Zephyr is the most common counter to Bodyguard.

Q: What are known Valewalker bugs?

A: You can't use the detaunt for your first hit (it won't fire), it will work correctly for any subsequent hit.

The level 43 defensive proc will not be overwritten by the shades of mist level 10 defensive proc.

Bow procs (e.g. Fool's Bow proc) go through Arboreal Shield.

Q: Who is the Valewaker TL and where is his last report?

A: It's Artic, and his last report with feedback is here: http://vnboards.ign.com/Valewalker_Archive_**Read_Only**/b22327/74177524/?67

Whoops...

Q: What stat is scythe damage based off of?
A: Strength.

Uhm, every time I've checked, it's claimed to be Str+Dex.

That's old mythology, maybe even going back to beta.
Scythe Damage IS Strength-Only. Sorry(!)

Dex drops into parry and evade, and scythe (is it only to-hit? Or also damage?) More useful than raw Str.

A. No, a Valewalker can equip some staves, but Arboreal focus will have no effect. Arboreal focus can not be SCed onto a scythe.

Repeated testing proves - focus staff (e.g. lv 45+ stave for final lv 45 lifetap) gives you 20% more lifetaps, exactly as focus promises. However it's true, one cannot embue focus into a scythe, only staff, making it only fun in PvE when natures shield isn't needed.

As poster says - Mythic has fixed this and all my retests
show no power pool change with or without. It should be edited to
say that "Valewalker Arboreal focus can not be SCed onto a scythe
(that Focus effect you see is Animist Arboreal Focus)."

Finally would add to RA's info;

Q. Does Mastery of Focus help VW's?

A. Mastery of Focus increases the effective level of all the casters spells for purposes of resists. At MoFocus I, the final Lv 45 lifetap hits as if it were a Lv 48 spell. At MoFocus II, the final Lv 50 lifetap hits as a Lv 50 spell (this is a hard cap.) Also useful to increase the chances of root or DoT landing to interrupt.

See comments below on why landing the DoT is BAD in many situations happy

Otherwise pretty nicely done.

I still think so!

Scythe Damage is PURE Str based, dex has no effect to scythe damage at all, dex will effect your casting/parry/evade though

That was _not_ the case last time I checked it (patch 1.70).

To the best of my knowledge VWs do not benefit from focus.

You want your dot to NOT land. Resists inturupt. DoTs break CC. I use the lvl 1 dot in 8v8.
